
The Western Australian 2025-26 State Budget was handed down on 19 June 2025. Here are some highlights:
Made in WA
This Budget the Government is injecting a further $2.7 billion into economic infrastructure to boost WA’s economic capacity and unlock opportunities across the State. This includes:
- $50 million Housing Innovation Fund to support initiatives and technologies to boost productivity along the housing supply chain.
- $50 million Local Battery Manufacturing Program for grants and low interest loans to support locally produced residential and industrial batteries.
- $40 million boost to the New Industries and Innovation Fund to support development and acceleration of innovation-based technologies.
- $30 million for a further round of funding for new energies industries through the Investment Attraction Fund to support critical minerals, hydrogen and carbon capture and storage projects.
- $8.9 million to support the Exploration Incentive Scheme.
- $500 million additional investment in the Strategic Industries Fund (SIF), taking it to $1 billion over 10 years.
Investing in the regions
This Budget includes $4 billion investment in Royalties for Regions, and a $10.3 billion pipeline of regional infrastructure works over the next four years, including:
- $121 million of additional regional health and mental health investment.
- $30 million boost to Collie Industrial Transition Fund to secure major new job creating projects in Collie.
- $25 million to establish a Regional Racing Fund.
Protecting the environment
This Budget includes:
- $17 million to deliver the Treebates and Urban Canopy Program and build greener, leafier towns and suburbs.
- $5 million for the Healthy Oceans Fund to support our underwater ecosystem through seagrass bed restoration projects and research.
- $20 million to further expand the Aboriginal Ranger program.
Investing in housing
The 2025-26 Budget delivers $1.4 billion in additional housing initiatives focused on boosting supply around the State, increasing total additional investment to $5.8 billion since 2021-22, including:
- $101 million Housing Enabling Infrastructure Fund investment in power and water infrastructure to unlock land for 33,000 future homes. This builds on a recent $105 million investment to unlock up to 28,000 new homes.
- $50 million Housing Innovation Fund to support initiatives and technologies to boost productivity along the housing supply chain.
- $75 million for no and low interest loans to support affordable build to rent developments get off the ground sooner.
- $6 million for the Community Housing Capability Program.
- $25 million to increase the number of subsidised tradie apprentices to 1,000 through the GTO wage subsidy.
- $600,000 to assist more tradies to become registered builders and establish successful businesses.
Investing in training
The 2025-26 Budget invests $331 million in TAFEs and training to ensure our workforce is equipped to succeed in an evolving global economy, including:
- $100 million investment to continue lower fee and Fee-Free TAFE.
- $25 million to increase the number of subsidised construction trade apprentices to 1,000 through the GTO wage subsidy.
- $22 million to increase the number of Fee-Free TAFE courses for the construction sector to train more tradies.
- $8 million to support employers to take on more mature-aged apprentices.
Supporting WA women
This Budget invests in services and initiatives to improve women’s health, sport, safety and workforce opportunities, including:
- $6 million to establish a Boosting Women and Girls Participation in Sport grant program.
- $1 million to extend the Women’s Grants for a Stronger Future program.
Supporting WA households
$963 million to provide targeted assistance to WA families, including:
- $337 million for the State’s Residential Battery Scheme.
- $152 million to establish the new suburban flat fare across the Transperth and Transregional public transport networks.
- $89 million to deliver the second round of the WA Student Assistance Payment.
- $10 million to extend free public transport for school students for the 2026 school year.
- Delivering $150 in energy bill relief on behalf of the Commonwealth Government.
- $4 million for $300 Kidsport vouchers.
- $19 million increase in the Patient Assisted Travel Scheme fuel subsidy from 26 cents to 40 cents per kilometre.
- $26 million to increase the Regional Pensioner Travel Card by a further $100 to $775.
